Okay new to decoupage…i know you need mod podge but what kind of paper do you use? is it just paper matte?

Okay new to decoupage…i know you need mod podge but what kind of paper do you use? is it just paper matte?
is it just paper matter or mache (how ever you spell it) or what other materials can you use?..i was watching it on youtube and the lady had napkins..but they had some sort of paper on the back of them? help i think it looks so neat!
